Í TextílLab er útsaumsvél sem nýtist í ýmsar tilraunir og nýsköpun í vinnslu á textíl og útsaumi. Útsaumur sem handverk er mjög tímafrek vinna og hamlar þannig ákveðinni framþróun. Möguleikarnir verða því óendanlegir með útsaumsvélinni sem sparar tíma og handavinnu. Hægt er að sauma út marglita mynd en þar sem vélin er einnar nálar þarf að skipta um liti handvirkt. Hægt er að vinna efnisprufur út frá áferð, mynstrum eða myndum og svo má áfram telja. Hægt er að vinna með margar stærðir og gerð af útsaumshringjanna (hoops) fer eftir því hvað verkefnið er stór.

Feltloom Pro 60DM from FeltLOOM. Þessi vél festir saman óspunna ull með því að stinga nálum í ullina þannig að hún loðir saman og úr verður efni. Ull hentar mjög vel sem hráefni til að vinna með í vélinni en hægt er að nota önnur mjúk efni og efnisafganga. Ullarþæfingarvélin er mjög hentug til að vinna efnisprufur sem og búa til einstök listaverk. Stærð vinnuflatar: 150 cm á breidd og eins langt og þú vilt.

Our Feltloom Pro 60DM is 150 cm wide, which means that works can be max 150 wide. Length, however, is flexible (artists have been creating works that were approx. 3 meters long). The thickness of the wool or material can be up to 1.5cm, depending on the density of the material. It is suitable for material exploration and large scale work. Wool works the best, though it can handle most fabrics and yarns except for: tightly woven dense fabrics (such as canvas), leather, plastic, or other materials which may break the needles. It can be rented by the hour or day.

Roland STUDIO BN-20 Vinyl printer. Vínylskerinn er eitt fjölhæfasta verkfærið í TextílLab. Með honum er hægt að skera út og/eða prenta á vínylfilmur sem svo er hægt að pressa á textíl eða önnur efni. Einnig er hægt að skera út sveigjanlegar rafrásir úr koparfilmur með prentaranum sem hægt er að fella inn í t.d. fatnað og þannig búa til snjallvirkan textíl. Prentarann er einnig hægt að nota til þess að skera út munstur á vínyilfilmur sem hægt er að festa á silkiþrykkramma með auðveldum hætti.

The project Fjólublár is a collaboration between the Icelandic Textile Center, BioPol and Ístex. The goal is to create a sustainable dyeing process for Icelandic wool by utilizing the bacterium Janthinobacterium lividum which is able to produce the purple pigment violacein. During this project, the production of bacterial dye from J. lividum has been optimized and a method has been developed for efficient and sustainable dying of wool. The project received funding from the SSNV 2023 Development Fund.

Eurobus 2024: EU ambassador Ganslandt visited the Textile Center and TextileLab in September 2024. The Eurobus was travelling around the country where experts from Rannís - the Icelandic Research Centre visited a total of 12 towns and villages and shared information about EU funding opportunities via EU programmes managed by Rannís.

Intelligent Instrument Labs from Reykjavík came to the Textile Center in April 2023 to experiment and make conductive yarn, soft matrixes, fabric speakers, tufting and felted sensor and an e-textile no-input mixer in the Lab.
