Wool Interactions 28. - 29.8.

The field of smart textile design practices is at the intersection of diverse fields becoming an iconic interdisciplinary bridge between textile design, interaction design, material science and electronics. Smart textiles combine traditional craft processes with state of the art fiber-based smart materials to create soft and flexible circuits for applications in healthcare design and fashion.

During this (free of charge) 3-hour workshop, participants learn basic theory and hands-on experience with crafting soft sensors with wool and smart wool using needle felting, a technique to create two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects by joining the wool fibers through the use of a very sharp and notched needle. All the sensors will be then connected to a hardware platform to discover their sound and visual interactions. No previous experience is needed, just concentration and a little patience. Participants can bring their own carded wool if they want to use special colour, otherwise we provide all materials needed.

The workshop will be held in Kvennaskólinn (ground floor) twice, on Saturday, August 28, 2021  (13:00 - 16:00) and Sunday, August 29 (11:00 - 14:00).
