This family-friendly event will take place at five different beaches along the coast of Northwest Iceland (near Hvammstangi, Skagaströnd, Sauðárkrókur - see pictures to the right) on Saturday, May 25th. Participants meet at the beach of their choice and spend the day picking waste and building artwork (cairns) under the guidance of students from the Icelandic University of the Arts and artists from NES Skagaströnd and Textile Center art residencies. We'll start collecting at 10:00 am and should be done no later than 16:00. You don't have to stay for the entire time, though. The artwork will be presented during the formal opening of the Arctic Coast Way tourist route on June 8th, Ocean Day.
This project is a collaboration of the Icelandic Textile Center & Biopol in Skagaströnd and funded by Uppbyggingarsjóður NV and the Icelandic Ministry of the Environment.
Help us keep bring awareness to ocean plastic pollution. Coffee & hot cocoa will be provided - we suggest you bring your own re-usable cups! We'll see you there!
