Textile Lab

Textile Lab
In May 2021, the Textile Center opened the first Textile Lab in Iceland, including a laser cutter, felt loom, digital embroidery machine, digital knitting machine, and two digital looms. The Lab is located in walking distance from the Textile Center and will be open for students, artists and makers soon - watch this space! Please note that the lab facilities are NOT included in the residency fee and access to the lab and/or individual machines needs to be booked separately!

TC2 Digital Loom
Our Tc2 digital loom is now located in the new TextileLab on Þverbraut 1. We are currently in the process of restructuring the digital loom residency, and can no longer offer month-long exclusive access to the loom(s) for new applicants. Artists in residence and other guests can book the loom and equipment at the Textile Lab for shorter sprints (2 weeks at a time - see also price list here).

With a TC2, artists can create designs which normally require a Jacquard loom. In shaftweaves: change the number of shafts, threadings and weave structures instantly. Our TC2 has a weaving width of 43 inch. and is equipped with 6 modules and 1320 warp threads, 12/cm or 30 epi. (See also images in our picture gallery.) The TC2 loom is static and has its own computer.) Please note that we do not provide materials or warp!

Artists who book the TC2 loom need to be experienced digital loom weavers and know how to roll on the warp beam, thread the heddles, thread the reed and understand how the Tc2 software works, as we do not offer any introductory or weaving classes at this point in time.
