Icelandic wool
Icelandic wool is famous around the world and easy to find here, a region known for its sheep and sheep farming. Handcrafting is a tradition in Iceland, so a wide variety of yarn (colors, wideness, thickness, etc.) can be found in every grocery store (the local store is a 5 min walk from the residency). The only wool washery in Iceland (Ístex wool washery) is located in Blönduós. Artists are welcome to visit to see the washing process during opening hours.

Textile Lab
In May 2021, the Textile Center opened the first Textile Lab in Iceland, including a laser cutter, felt loom, digital embroidery machine, digital knitting machine, and two digital looms. The Lab is located in walking distance from the Textile Center and will be open for students, artists and makers soon - watch this space! Please note that the lab facilities are NOT included in the residency fee and access will need to be booked separately!
