2019: Ocean Scarf

The theme of the Iceland Knit Fest Knitting Competition in 2019 was: Ocean Scarf

The theme of thesea has played a defining role in Iceland's history. The island is surrounded by the North Atlantic Ocean and was settled by seafarers. Throughout the centuries, Icelanders have braved the wild waters to bring home fish, one of the most important sources of food and the foundation of Iceland's economy. Respect for the ocean is deeply ingrained in Icelandic culture and the responsible management of marine resources of great importance to the small nation. It just so happens that Saturday, June 8th 2019 - day two of the Iceland Knit Fest -  was World Oceans Day, a day to celebrate the ocean. So the object of choice was a scarf referencing the sea, in any way, shape or form.

The three winners were:

1. place Dóra Lindal Hjartardóttir,  ,,Hafið”
2. place Maja Siska, ,,Gárur” (middle)
3. place Ingibjörg Sveinsdóttir,  ,,Fegurð Hafsíns” (top picture)

Prices were glorious gift baskets from Ístex including a woolen blanket, knitting set, Iceland yarn and patterns!
