Digital Weaving - Innovation through Pixels

Digital Weaving Norway (DWN) is a department of Tronrud Engineering Moss that manufactures digital weaving looms called the Thread Controller 2 (TC2). The three-day conference in Sundvollen marked the 30th anniversary by bringing together artists, researchers, educators, and designers working at the intersection of craft, technology, and material innovation.

The Textile Center bought its first TC2 in 2016 (we now have two) - and we‘re still the only institution in Iceland who does! Can’t be for much longer, though. It’s an awesome machine. Not ‘’just“ a weaving tool. Which is why presentations explored a wide range of topics - see program. The conference highlighted the TC2’s role across disciplines – from the medical to the artistic – and how (digital) weaving continues to evolve as both a technical and cultural practice.

Happy birthday Digital Weaving Norway- and thank you for having us!
