This hybrid course led by our Textile Lab Team, Sarah Finkle and Alissa Estivariz, will offer both an online introduction and on-site teaching to the TC2 loom in the Textile Lab at the Icelandic Textile Center in Blönduós.
The online session will focus on the basics of creating digital files in Photoshop and building a library of weave structures. This is intended as a preparation to create your own samples from scratch and maximising your weaving time on-site. In order to participate Adobe Photoshop is required to have on your own computer. After two weeks participants will work hands-on on both the TC2 Looms to create their own samples.
The Icelandic Textile Center has two TC2 digital looms located at the Textile Lab. One is 12 threads/cm, and the other is 18 threads/cm, both of which are well-suited for artistic weaving, home textiles, and all kinds of textile design.
The course fee is ISK 50,000. Warp is included in the cost but please bring your own weft material. We do have a small yarn shop at the Textile Lab, however selection is limited.
The warp yarn for the course is black and white mercerized cotton, size 16/2, so most types of weft yarns (wool, cotton, linen, etc.) are suitable.
Spots are limited, so please book yours by 7th of April!
Online session: 28th of April from 16-18 (GMT).
Onsite session: 16th of May from 9-17 and 17th of May 9-15.
After the course you will be able to:
Create digital files in Photoshop for TC2 Programme
Build weave structures and have your own library
Edit and prepare images or graphics for pattern fills
Operate the TC2 Loom for weaving, including configuration, weaving, tabby function, ratio and tension tests
Go home with your own woven samples (max. 2 colour weft)
Book our next advanced TC2 course and book a slot for our TC2 Sample Loom in our Textile Lab.
Accommodation is not included, but can be arranged. Please contact us via textillab@textilmidstod.is.
We look forward to seeing you!

📅 Wednesday, April 15, 16:00–18:00, in the TextileLab:
Join us for a hands-on introduction to machine embroidery using our Husqvarna and Brother embroidery machines. You’ll learn the basics of:
Editing and preparing images or text for embroidery
Using mySewnet software (for the Husqvarna machine)
Using the open-source program Inkscape (for the Brother machine)
Please bring your own laptop if possible so you can work directly in the software Inkscape. We recommend preparing images or ideas in advance that you’d like to embroider onto your own clothing or onto fabric we provide.
✨ Tip: If you attend our Felting Course beforehand, you can bring your felted piece and embroider directly onto it.
During the session, we’ll prepare embroidery files together, and each participant will complete at least one stitched piece. The course is suitable for both beginners and those with prior embroidery experience. Feel free to ask questions via textillab@textilmidstod.is, we are happy to assist with any advice or recommendations.
⏱️ Please note: Due to the short session length, we focus on small test pieces rather than long embroidery projects. For more time-intensive work, we recommend booking one of our Open Booking Wednesdays.
