📅 Wednesday, April 15, 16:00–18:00, in the TextileLab:
Join us for a hands-on introduction to machine embroidery using our Husqvarna and Brother embroidery machines. You’ll learn the basics of:
Editing and preparing images or text for embroidery
Using mySewnet software (for the Husqvarna machine)
Using the open-source program Inkscape (for the Brother machine)
Please bring your own laptop if possible so you can work directly in the software Inkscape. We recommend preparing images or ideas in advance that you’d like to embroider onto your own clothing or onto fabric we provide.
✨ Tip: If you attend our Felting Course beforehand, you can bring your felted piece and embroider directly onto it.
During the session, we’ll prepare embroidery files together, and each participant will complete at least one stitched piece. The course is suitable for both beginners and those with prior embroidery experience. Feel free to ask questions via textillab@textilmidstod.is, we are happy to assist with any advice or recommendations.
⏱️ Please note: Due to the short session length, we focus on small test pieces rather than long embroidery projects. For more time-intensive work, we recommend booking one of our Open Booking Wednesdays.
Your registration fee includes:
You’re also welcome to bring your own fabrics or fibers to personalize your work.
✨ Spaces are limited — reserve your spot early!

Material Dialogues: DIY Materials Approach in Iceland 3.3. - 5.3. 2026
A 3-Day Biomaterial Workshop with Politecnico Milano in Blönduós!
We invite designers, artists, researchers, and curious makers working across textiles, biomaterials, ecology, and interdisciplinary practices to join a three-day hands-on workshop at the TextileLab in Blönduós. We will explore materials as active collaborators in the making process. Participants can bring their own harvested ingredients such as dried algae, barks, lichens, leaves or plants to enrich the collective process.
NOTE: In case weather conditions prevent on-site foraging, the workshop will continue with thoughtfully pre-collected materials, and the programme will be adjusted to the conditions.
The program can be found in the calendar on our website. Please note that accommodation and lunch are not included in the workshop fee. Coffee and snacks will be available throughout the day. If you would like assistance with arranging accommodation, please feel free to contact us by email.
Feel free to contact the TextileLab Team: Chiara Alissa Estivariz Lopez and Sarah Finkle if you have any questions!
