DesignMarch 2020

During DesignMarch 2020 (attention! new date: June 24 - 28), the Icelandic Textile Center presents the exhibition "Traditional weaving and the digital future", showing how digital technology can be used to take old weaving patterns and transform into new.

The exhibition will be held at Bismút, Hverfisgata 82 in Reykjavík from June 24 - 28, and is a collaboration with the Iceland Innovation Center. The exhibition features the outcome of two projects facilitated by the Icelandic Textile Center: “Bridging textiles to the digital future", funded by the Icelandic Research Fund, and "Innovation in Textiles", a collaborative project with the Reykjavík Academy of Arts, funded by the Student Innovation Fund.

Displayed will be fabric and upholstery samples based on old Icelandic weaving patterns, woven on a TC2 digital loom; design ideas for new textile products; and a video piece inspired by weaving patterns by Australian artist Caroline Huf.

The exhibition will be held at Bismút gallery on Hverfisgata 82 in Reykjavík.

Formal opening: Wednesday, June 24, 17.00 - 20:00, then open daily until June 28th, 12:00 - 17:00.
