Reykir Folk Museum

Next stop on the Textile Trail, Reykir Folk Museum - Byggðasafn Húnvetninga og Strandamanna

This wonderful folk museum has some exceptionally well curated exhibitions about the lifestyles and history of residents in the region featuring traditional turf houses, a shark fishing boat, and beautiful textile work throughout. There is also an exhibition about Rannveig Hansdóttir Líndal (1883-1955), who traveled extensively and lived a very eventful life. Rannveig taught woolwork in Greenland and was a teacher at Kvennaskóli both at Staðarfell and in Blönduós, where the Textile Center is now based. Well worth a stop to gain some insight into the lives and history of the region.
